In the US, this practice is standardized by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Animals in organic farms are fed with organic feeds so that they also produce organic meat.
Because cultivating them doesn’t require the use of artificial fertilizers that may pollute the land and bodies of water, organic foods are also considered environment-friendly. This is the reason why some people are going organic, because they are not only keeping themselves healthy, they are also helping save the environment.
Why Are Organic Foods Healthy?
Studies show that organic foods are more nutritious that the normal commercial goods. Plants that were grown without the help of fertilizers have increased levels of phytochemicals, which are responsible in their overall nutritional contents.
But are Organic Foods Safe?
Despite that these foods are proven to have high nutritional value, some people are showing apprehensions at taking in organic foods. Recent reports have it that these goods may contain disease-causing bacteria such as E. Coli and Salmonella, because they are prepared in unsafe and unsanitary procedures.
Moreover, researches have surfaced to contest the claim that organic foods are healthier than conventional foods. In a study conducted by Stanford School of Medicine, for example, it was found out that there really is no significant difference between organic and conventional foods in terms of their vitamin content.
